Biotechnology Management BIOT

Please note: To expand the reach of the programs, the Biotechnology Management program and its major (BIOT) and the Health Industry Management program and its major (HIMT) are now encompassed in the new Health Enterprise Management (HEMA) major as part of the Health Enterprise Management program.

Only Full-Time MBA students in the class of 2009 and Part-Time MBA students who were enrolled prior to fall 2008 are eligible to major in Biotechnology Management (BIOT) and Health Industry Management (HIMT). All students who declare the Health Enterprise Management (HEMA) major must meet the requirements for that major.

Biotechnology Management BIOT
Offered by the Biotechnology Management Program

Students are required to take one foundations course and two additional electives. The foundations courses are:

    HEMA-911 Biotechnology Models/Technology (formerly BIOT-911-0)
    HEMA-915 Medical Innovation I (formerly BIOT-915-0)
    HEMA-916 Medical Innovation II: Developing Biomedical Products from Patient to Market (formerly BIOT-916-0)
    MGMT-463 Management of Technology (Must be an approved section; please see Biotechnology Management for more details.)
       
In addition to one foundation course, students must take any two electives from the following list:
    HEMA-911 Biotechnology Models/Technology (formerly BIOT-911-0)
    HEMA-913 Biotech Business Practicum (formerly BIOT-913-0)
    HEMA-914 Biomedical Marketing (formerly BIOT-914-0)
    HEMA-915 Medical Innovation I (formerly BIOT-915-0)
    HEMA-916 Medical Innovation II: Developing Biomedical Products from Patient to Market (formerly BIOT-916-0)
    HEMA-919 Law and Biotechnology
    FINC-932 Case Studies in Venture Investment and Management
    HEMA-453 Managerial Challenges in the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, and Medical Device Industries (formerly HIMT-453-0)
    INTL-473 Global Initiatives in Management (Must be an approved section; please see Biotechnology Management for more details.)
    MGMT-463 Management of Technology (Must be an approved section; please see Biotechnology Management for more details.)
    MKTG-463 Sales Force Management
    TECH-441 Intellectual Capital Management
       
In addition, students are also strongly encouraged to take at least one of the following zero credit activities:
    HEMA-910 Science Boot Camp (Formerly BIOT-910-A) (offered in Fall Quarter)
      Biotech Leadership Bootcamp (offered in Winter Quarter)
      Biotech Seminar Series (offered Fall, Winter, Spring Quarters)
