Welcome to Kellogg’s First Social Impact Newsletter

Social Impact Newsletter  /  Winter 2017

Greetings!
Welcome to our quarterly newsletter on the goings-on in Social Impact at Kellogg. I was pleased to hear from so many of you in response to our inaugural newsletter in November. I hope you’ll keep reaching out and connecting.

I heard from alumnus Jeff Shuck ‘09 about his social impact consulting firm Plenty, from Alexis Bonnell (EMBA) ‘09 who works in social innovation for USAID and from Bruce Hoyt ‘84 who leads impact investing for Gary Community Investments in Denver. I’d just like to say that you all are impressive out there and we’ love hearing what you’re up to in the social impact realm in and across your careers.

Best,

Megan Kashner ‘03
Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of Social Impact

Youn Impact Scholars are an elite group of Kellogg students and alumni who are passionate about social impact. Endowed with a generous gift from the Combe family in 2013, Youn Impact Scholars named its first cohort in 2014 and now numbers 40 total members. From the CEO of a $2 billion cooking equipment company employing his skills and assets to assist refugees, to a student using technology to help former inmates find jobs, the 2017 cohort exemplifies the depth and breadth of what Kellogg leaders can accomplish in the social impact space.

Jeff Davidoff “It is a false choice to think that you either have to have a successful capitalistic career or do good. One of the great myths of our business time is this notion that the sole goal of the company is to provide the greatest value to its shareholders.”
